Multiple sclerosis patients to tour UCI stem cell center

The UC Irvine Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center is opening its core laboratory on Thursday, Nov. 15, to community members with multiple sclerosis. The lab tour is being organized by a member of the centers’ Patient Advisory Committee, which was formed in the fall of 2006. The PAC supplies patient and disability perspective to the center as it creates and shapes its policies, programs and priorities. Members of the PAC have a wide range of medical conditions – including Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases – and they have multiple overlapping as well as discrete priorities and concerns. With input from the PAC, UCI scientists can better understand the physical and social aspects of conditions that are at the heart of stem cell research.
